“Diving into State”

The 2020 season has been anything but perfect for the Lady Buffs. With a 1-5 start to the season and a lot of adjustments, the Lady Buffs volleyball team certainly found some momentum considering a rocky start. “After graduating 5 starting seniors and now Collegiate players, we definitely had some work to do with our current seniors,” said Coach Bailey. The Lady Buffs now on their 9th consecutive win, Abby Ellermann has shown great improvements according to Coach Bailey. “Abby has been on our varsity team since her Sophomore year, and to me, she has improved so much over this last year. Trista Bailey has been coaching for Garden City now for 4 years. Previously at Clearwater High, where she coached the Indians to a 3rd place finish in the 4A-II division. This will be her 5th appearance at state. After a dominating performance at Sub-State, the Lady Buffs were able to punch their ticket into the State Tournament. With a 2-0 win over Hutchinson and a 2-1 win over Dodge City, the Lady Buffs set their sights on their next obstacle, Derby (22-12). Due to Covid-19, the first round of the state tournament was held outside the State locations. This meant that the Lady Buffs had to travel to Derby. The Panthers took charge of heading into the game with a home-court advantage. The Panthers sailed off in the first two sets 22-25 and 15-25. The Lady Buffs later came back with a 3-set win streak 25-17, 25-11, 15-11. The Lady Buffs setting themselves apart from derby on the statistics side. Garden City with 47 kills against the panthers, 5 blocks, 3 aces, and an impressive 91 digs. Garden City will face off OP-Blue Valley West (22-7) on Friday, October 30th at 10:45. This will be Garden City’s 6th Consecutive trip to the State Tournament and Garden City’s 10th consecutive WAC championship. Tickets will be sold to a limited number of fans. You can
