After a long and unknown season, Chase Elliot has won the 2020 Nascar Cup Series Championship.

Elliot (24) had to take on the best of the best in order to win the title.  Joey Logano ( 1x Title), Brad Keselowski( 1x Title),  and Denny Hamlin (44 wins) were the other drivers making up the Championship 4. After winning at Martinsville, Elliot secured his spot into the final 4 for the championship. This would be his first appearance in the Championship 4 since his start in the Cup series back in 2016.  Elliot has made the Nascar playoffs all  5 years of his career but always falling short of the Final Four appearance. Chase Elliot became the 3rd youngest driver of all time to win the NASCAR title, the last being the 4 time NASCAR Champion, Jeff Gordon. Chase Elliot took over for Gordon after the conclusion of the 2015 season. Elliot would drive the 24 for 2 seasons, then switch numbers to represent his father’s number. After that, the wins started falling in. Chase, with 11 wins now, says ” they don’t come any easier after the first, but just harder.” After winning his first race at Watkins Glen, fellow teammate, Jimmie Johnson pushed Elliot back around the track during his victory lap after his car ran out of gas. Now, as this was Jimmie Johnson’s final race in the Nascar Cup Series, Johnson, passed the torch to his teammate after Elliot won.

“The sky is the limit for Chase,” Johnson said after taking time from his own post-race celebration of a career to congratulate his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, two decades his junior. The seven-time Cup champion finished 5th in his final event as a full-time NASCAR racer, just behind the Championship 4.

“When I came along, there were zero expectations for me. Chase has had these impossible expectations from others since the day he was born. But he’s never backed down from that challenge. The reality is that he is an insanely talented race car driver. Sponsors and opportunities and even your last name, none of that drives the race car. The person behind the wheel does. And he’s a wheelman.”

This win, now being Chase Elliots 11th win and his 1st Nascar Title. We take a look back at how Chase Elliot got his first, NASCAR Cup Series Championship.
