Most countries between now and a year ago have faced some sort of conflict, but by far, Sudan has the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. Almost 7 million have been displaced, are starving, and are on the crisp of complete genocide. Since April of 2023, there has been international pressure on Sudan to turn its interim government into a civilian one, trying to push the Sudanese armed forces into the national army which has caused a violent reaction from SAFs by leader Hemedti. Therefore, creating a conflict between the National Sudan army and the SAF has created an unlivable environment in an already poverty-filled country. The people of Sudan by far have lost not only the right to their lives but their resources and homes. Between the air strikes that have hit hospitals, homes, and schools and the growing concern of having clean water and food, it seems as if nowhere is safe.
Right now, there are 9.6 million Sudanese seeking asylum and refuge in Sudan’s surrounding countries including Chad mainly and Ethiopia. This Crisis has displaced so many people that these countries are now facing severe Refugee crises and are unable to hold as many people as they are currently. Back in Sudan currently, 70% of the healthcare facilities are unable to successfully help their clients due to a shortage of staff and supplies. There are also 17.7 million people facing food insecurity. In this whole crisis since April, there has been little to no coverage of the issue. No news outlets are covering this genocide and the first time I heard of this crisis was 3 weeks ago. It is devastating that little to no one knows the horrors going on in Sudan. Especially in a world where we can donate and send food to people in need at the click of a button. On the website, https://www.savethechildren.org, there is an option to donate to children and families in need who have been unable to escape and are trapped in these horrid living conditions.
