Garden City Broncbusters, record of one win and one loss, kicked off to play against the Red Ravens at Coffeyville Community College.
Coffeyville had two chances to win the game by field goal, but they were unable to convert both. After regulation, the final score was 23–23, which sent the game into overtime. The Ravens got the opening possession in overtime. Broncbuster defense had to limit them to one possession in order for them to regain possession of the ball. The offensive line rushed the quarterback on third and fifteen, forcing him to complete a short pass to avoid being tackled.
Shamareon “Bo Bo” McKinnon, a sophomore from Dillon High School in South Carolina, is positioned #4 in the back backfield and is in the defensive position.
“The ball is intercepted and Garden City coming back the other way it will be a pick 6 and Garden City will escape 29-23 in overtime,” Coffeyville Commentator said.
“I knew I needed to make a play, but my main goal was to stop them so our offense could have a chance to win the game,” McKinnon stated.
He was determined to regain his momentum since he was aware that he had to make up for his poor start in the game. In the end, he accomplished his objectives and showed up when his team needed him.
“I saw the ball coming and realized it was my chance to recover from my poor start. I grabbed the ball and ran,” McKinnon explained.
In the pivotal moment, McKinnon, who had the pick six, carried the ball 86 yards to secure the victory and made a monumental (Big) play.
“I will never forget the moment I saw all of my teammate’s sprint down the sidelines with me to celebrate scoring,” McKinnon recalled.
Heading into their 4th week of football against Ellsworth Community College, McKinnon has high hopes for him and his teammates. He is excited to see where the rest of the season takes the team and hopes they keep improving every day and learning from their mistakes.
