Beetlejuice 2, Hit or Miss
“The juice is loose,” once again! Warner Bros have just released “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” a sequel to the popular 1988 film, “Beetlejuice.” The 2024 movie was released in early September and brings back a few of the original 1988 cast. Some of the returning cast members include Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz. In addition to the actors who have come back to restore their prominent roles, the franchise has also added Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, and Justin Theroux, who will be intricate members to the story.
The infamous Betelgeuse is a character who is known for his incredible wit and peculiar tricks he plays on anyone who is brave enough to say his name three times. His ghost proceeds to taunt whoever he encounters until they ultimately find the way to put him back where he came from, the land of the afterlife. The selfish, conniving, and mischievous Beetlejuice haunts again after Lydia summons him to help save her daughter before she gets stuck in the afterlife. Of course, the prankster himself agrees to helping his former “love interest” Lydia, on one condition and one condition only; that motive being Lydia must agree to marry him. This deal proceeds to get the Deetz family into Beetlejuice’s twisted puzzles and selfish tricks, just like in the first movie.
This plot spinoff is not the only thing that correlates with the 1988 movie we all know and love, but there are several things that Beetlejuice lovers would be able to point out in the 2024 sequel. There are endless references to the first film ranging all the way from the Handbook for the Recently Deceased, the shrunken head afterlife characters, Lydia’s wedding dress, Delia’s sculptures, and the notorious “Day-O” song.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is a well-articulated film that is a great addition to the franchise; leaving the audience with laughs, satisfaction, and endless entertainment.
