As we reach the end of the week Garden City Community College is ramping up to celebrate its annual homecoming. To celebrate the college has decided to dedicate the entire next week to celebrating the occasion with it all leading up to Saturday’s football game. This is going to be Busters Spooktacular Week. For the next week, SGA will be putting on various Halloween-themed events and activities.
This event comes after the Blazin’ Buster Award which replaced last year’s homecoming. For each day of the week, a new themed event will be occurring. Starting Monday, the 21st will be Sports Team Gear Day. There students and staff are encouraged to wear the gear from their favorite sports teams ranging from soccer, baseball, or football. This includes wearing things such as jerseys, t-shirts, and more.
Tuesday, the 22nd has been titled, Twin Day. Here students and their friends are going to be able to plan and coordinate their outfits together and match each other’s clothing throughout the day.
On Wednesday, the 23rd students will be able to premiere their Halloween costumes early throughout the day. Students can express themselves and embrace their creative sides together. Whether that be wearing a full Halloween costume, or simply putting on accessories, this event will certainly add a lot of color and fun to campus.
On Thursday, the 24th SGA will be holding a bonfire across the campus. Starting at 8 PM students can visit the front of the GCCCA building to rest and hang out near the campfire.
Lastly, Friday the 25th will be GCCC’s Trunk or Treat event. This is going to be a community-wide event for both friends and family. Children and their families get to all attend in their Halloween costumes and collect Halloween candy, as well as participate in several activities. Other GCCC organizations and teams will have a station set up during the Trunk or Treat with different themes and treats to be given out. The Trunk or Treat will be held at the Transportation Building and will be running, from 6 PM to 8 PM.
This will all be capped off at Broncbusters stadium where, on Saturday the 26th GCCC’s football game against Iowa Western will be held. The event is going to be open to the whole community to attend and enjoy. Tickets for free admission to the game will also be given out during the Trunk or Treat the Friday before for those who attend.
These activities and events will be great to build solidarity within our community and are bound to put everyone who participates in a festive mood for the Halloween holiday. We hope to see the support and participation from much of the student body this year.
