As the month of October comes to a close, and we near the ever-so-celebrated Halloween night, it is also time to reflect on last week’s celebrations. During that time the Student Government Association held the Busters Spooktacular Week on campus.
Each day was themed differently to fit around autumn and Halloween. The first three days were set up for students to dress up around campus, starting Monday, the 21st, with Sports Team Gear Day where students wore jerseys and shirts from their favorite sports teams. This was then followed by Twin Day on Tuesday, the 22nd when students matched outfits with each other, and Halloween Costume Day on Wednesday, the 23rd, which allowed students to wear their Halloween costumes and accessories on campus.
Then on Thursday the 24th when a bonfire was supposed to be held for students at the GCCCA building. However due to unfortunate circumstances the event had to be cancelled. However, SGA did move some things over to the game room where students hung out together. Those who attended were able to enjoy some nice drinks, and play pool against each other.
This was then followed up with the college’s trunk or treat on Friday the 25th. The trunk or treat has become an annual occurrence for the college by now, and this year there were no stops pulled. The event was held at the transportation building, with a large number of school clubs and organizations having their own booths set up. Each station was decorated with a different theme, with some being based off of aliens, and the Despicable Me movies. We over at GC3 media even participated with a clown themed booth handing out candy and having a small limbo game for kids to participate in.
The turnout for the event was grand with many parents and children from the community visiting and collecting candy in their Halloween costumes. The event lasted from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and throughout the night parking lots were full and long lines full of ecstatic children waiting to collect pieces of candy and have fun were formed.
All these festivities and celebrations led up to the football game held on Saturday the 26th at Broncbuster stadium against Iowa Western Community College. This event was the big homecoming game for the school semester and a way to cap off the events prior. Although the team did unfortunately lose the game the audience still cheered them on. The participation in the crowd at the game, and the rest of the spooktacular events displayed how big and united the community in GCCC is.
