It is time to dust off your capes and costumes, as this Saturday, Garden City Community College presents 2025’s Buster-Con for the second year in a row. As pop culture and media have grown, we have seen the ever-lasting release of media from properties like Star Wars and Marvel. Fandom and the expression of all sorts are forever strong.
To express their passions for the things they love many people in various fandoms express this through art, collecting, cosplaying, and more to share with the world. Yet one of the biggest problems is connecting all these fans together in person. This is where conventions come in.
Comic conventions such as San Diego’s Comic-Con have existed since the 60’s and have become a hub for people with deep interests in pop culture and to meet other people who share each other’s interests. As comic conventions have become integral to these spaces it was only a matter of time that a convention such as this was located in Southwest Kansas.
Buster-Con premiered last year in February to the public a big success. It is a one-day, family friendly event that manages to display the many talents of Garden City’s residents. This being the second year for the event, many of its organizers and planners have promised to blow last year’s out of the water. With an expectance of over double the attendees at this year’s event no stops have been pulled for this year’s events.
This year’s Buster-Con has managed to secure both past vendors from last year, and new vendors featuring about fifty. Here attendees will be able to view various custom-made art pieces, comics, and collectible figures.
While here you can also see various cosplays from both guests and attendees, as well as join in to the Buster-Con costume contest. Along with that there will also be various special guests such as local and traveling authors and artists, and featured guest, actor, John Anderson.
No matter what, Buster-Con manages to provide a large variety for its guests and keep them entertained all throughout the day. Buster-Con comes to GCCC on Saturday, February 15th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
