The Garden City Community College Art Club recently organized an art sale in the Mercer Gallery. The funds earned during their art sale went towards the club’s plans to travel to Santa Fe, New Mexico, to tour a museum. What made the sale special was the affordability for the community. Both students and teachers showcased and sold various pieces of their art for lower than usual prices.
A large portion of the art sale consisted of hand drawn pieces and prints. The smaller pieces of the wide selection were sold for twenty-five dollars. Other illustrations were up to seventy-five dollars in price.
One member of the art club crafted a replica of the classic Mexican card game, “Loteria.” The artist used their painting skills on small slabs of wood. These model cards were sold for twenty-five dollars.
Various artists used clay as a medium to create various sculptures for a variety of purposes like decoration for example.
All clay workpieces ranged in prices of seventy-five dollars up to one-hundred and fifty dollars. Contrary to the prices of other art pieces galleries hold, the productions out of Garden City, Kansas are pocket friendly and still manage to be just as outstanding. GCCC’s Art Club allows many of its students to practice and display their creations in several ways. The affordable art sale is a great gesture that crowds hope to see more of.
