A beloved frozen yogurt shop is making a comeback. Peachwave Frozen Yogurt, which previously operated in Garden City at 1110 N Campus Drive, is reopening at a new location this spring.
The self-serve frozen yogurt chain first arrived in Garden City as part of its expansion across the Midwest. The store quickly became a community favorite, offering a variety of flavors and toppings in a customizable format. However, the original location closed due to a property sale, leaving many locals without their go-to frozen treat destination.
Now, thanks to Enrique Alvarado and his family, Peachwave is set to reopen at 401 E Kansas Avenue. Alvarado, a longtime fan of the brand, saw an opportunity to bring Peachwave back to the community and took steps to reestablish the location. The reopening is expected to take place in the spring of 2025, though an exact date has not been announced.
“[My family and I] used to go to Peachwave back then. We missed it so much; we just missed all those places where a person can go out with their family and have a good time and enjoy a good conversation and a good treat. My youngest daughter is a teenager, and she said to me, ‘Dad, we need to do something…remember Peachwave, when we used to go to chit-chat and talk…why don’t you open a Peachwave.’ I did some digging and called Peachwave and asked if the business was available. I think it came out of the necessity of having more places to take family and friends and have a good time,” Alvarado said.
Peachwave, which was founded in 2009 and opened its first store in Edmond, Oklahoma, was an early pioneer in the self-serve frozen yogurt industry. Unlike traditional franchises, the company operates under a licensing model that gives store owners greater flexibility. It has since expanded across multiple states, offering high-quality yogurt, gelato, dairy-free options, and fro-yo shakes.
