Last week on March 27th, the video game company, Nintendo held the Nintendo Direct. The Nintendo Direct is a frequent presentation, live-streamed online for fans and general audiences. The presentation displays new developments for the company regarding new and upcoming video games and video game consoles. During this most recent Nintendo Direct, it lasted around thirty minutes with several new game titles being announced. Of these reveals the one that garnered the most anticipation and excitement was, the announcement for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will be the newest installment in the Tomodachi Life game series following the first game’s release eleven years ago. Tomodachi Life is meant to be a comedic and calming simulation game. Players can create new characters using Nintendo’s Mii character creator which can be used to recreate people in real life or fictional characters in a cartoonish way. The players can take care of the Mii’s on an island by feeding them, giving them new clothes, establishing relationships between them and other Miis as well as so much more. The game was received to great success and rave reviews with many complimenting its simple gameplay that anyone could follow along with, and compared to the 3d’s portability, it presented a great opportunity for people to play wherever they are.
The first Tomodachi Life game was released in the Summer of 2014, and after its release, many fans had been clamoring for a sequel for years. Anticipation was only increased as another game, utilizing the Mii creator, Miitopia, was remade for the Nintendo Switch in 2021. The new game had introduced even newer customization options for people to utilize which would work perfectly with the creative and chaotic nature of the first Tomodachi Life.
The trailer for Living the Dream seems to keep the same comedic aesthetic and island setting as the first while also seeming more expansive and traversable instead of the very point-and-click nature of the initial entry. The move away from the small 3DS screen also makes for a much nicer-looking, higher-quality game. Even after its over ten-year hiatus, the Tomodachi Life series still seems to be going strong as its announcement post by Nintendo was the most liked post the company had ever received on the website X. The game is set to release soon for audiences and seems to coincide as one of the newest titles for the new console the Nintendo Switch 2.
