Springtime consists of some of the busiest months of the year, especially at Garden City Community College (GCCC). Banquets, celebrations and many other activities make the months leading up to summer much more exciting for students and staff. A few of those events include Cinco De Mayo, Relax Day, Easter and banquets for athletics, clubs, and Hall of Fame inductees. Not only is spring a busy time for events but there is also a lot of action with sports and spring off-season workouts for athletes.
Easter is on April 20th this year and is a very popular holiday that many celebrate. We commemorate Easter as it is a season of religious traditions, remembering the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Some celebrate by going to church and doing activities like coloring easter eggs, easter egg hunts, and other little crafts.
Cinco De Mayo is celebrated on May 5th of every year. It is the day to celebrate heritage and identity. Cinco De Mayo is typically celebrated with parades and festivals with traditional Mexican food, music and dancing. It is a fun event to have a good time and celebrate with friends and family.
Here at GCCC, we also have a Relax day. It is a day to go do activities, meet new people and have a good time. We have this as a day for students to decompress before finals. One of the activities includes yoga, which is a great way to relax and move your body. They also have snow cones and other treats available at the event, which is always a plus as well!
We finish off the year by hosting banquets celebrating everyone’s hard work and dedication during the year. We have a banquet for athletics, clubs and Hall of Fame Inductees. There is food served and awards given at all these events. It gives everyone apart of GCCC a chance to connect with and honor one another. We also have graduation for Sophomores at GCCC following these events.
