The Ice Bucket challenge is back, this time spreading awareness for a different situation. This challenge first rose to fame in 2014, when people would pour ice water over someone else’s head to spread awareness and raise money for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS.
Now, the challenge has circled back through social media once again but spreading awareness for mental health. The new version of this campaign is called the #SpeakYourMind Ice Bucket Challenge. The same concept applies in the #SpeakYourMind Challenge as it did in the ALS Challenge, where individuals record themselves getting ice water poured over their heads, then posting it to social media with all the right hashtags and nominating a few new people.
The 2025 version of the challenge originated at the University of South Carolina’s Mental Illness Needs Discussion (MIND) club and has reached people across the United States. This just shows that mental health is a real thing and deserves to be talked about, and this is a great way to start spreading awareness.
