It seems that if anyone can maintain global superstardom for a long time, it is Beyoncé. On April 28th, the artist kicked off the start of her Cowboy Carter World Tour. The tour, named after her award-winning album released just last year, is her tenth concert tour and comes just two years after the conclusion of her Renaissance world tour in 2023. The world tour immediately garnered months of anticipation since her tour announcement during the Grammys, where she won Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter. The tour held its premiere show at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
Even before the show started, many attendees were met with multiple ways to get the show started as the merch table was set up and open for the public as well as a pop-up shop for Beyoncé’s hair care company, Cecred, were, attendees were able to buy from the brand and able to get a free keychain. Beyonce’s Whiskey company, Sir Davis, was also present with Cowboy Carter-inspired drinks and free tastings of the whiskey itself.
The concert itself begins at 8 pm Central Time with Beyoncé performing American Requiem to kick off the event. While the first show’s setlist showcased forty-one songs, the following shows seemed to have moved that number up to forty-four. Throughout the night, Beyoncé managed to bring the album to life while also delivering multiple surprises. During her rendition of Jolene, she swung around the stage in a giant horseshoe. Also, during several songs, the artist’s daughter, Blue Ivy, danced to multiple songs on stage. While performing the song, Protector, the artist also brought out her youngest daughter, Rumi.
During her almost three-hour set, Beyoncé also brought out multiple past hits as well such as Crazy in Love, Single Ladies. Most notably, Daddy Lessons, a song she had not played since the 2016 Country Music Awards, where she was dealt criticism and rejection for not being considered traditional country music.
Probably the biggest surprise of the night, though, was a whole dedicated segment in the middle of the tour dedicated to Beyoncé’s Renaissance. Although the tour for the album was concluded back in 2022, the accompanying album is only the first in a trilogy of albums. With Cowboy Carter being the second, it was only fitting that the artist dedicate a portion of the night to her first act.
With a multitude of wardrobe changes, flying cars, and flashing lights, the Cowboy Carter Tour made sure to pull out every trick it had in its inventory. The Cowboy Carter Tour is not just a Beyoncé tour, but also a celebration of black music and its roots in American culture and music as well. The tour has thirty-two shows scheduled throughout the summer and is set to end on July 26th in Las Vegas.
