One of Garden Cities most loved annual traditions returned last weekend. On Saturday, September 20th, Fall Fest was held along Main Street and Stevens Park. This Garden City staple is an opportunity for Southwest Kansans of all ages and interests to connect with their community.
The event featured local vendors, live music, and activities for all ages. The attendance of this event has expanded compared to years before. The livelihood presented throughout the entirety of Saturday allowed everyone to feel connected within the diversity of small Garden City.
In an ever-expanding world, taking a step back and thinking locally can be incredibly beneficial. Garden City is a growing community, with a plethora of opportunities. While this may be a great reality for many residents, Garden City’s growth can also bring a feeling of big city style disconnection. Due to this, it is more important than ever for community events to be held. Fall Fest, as one of these events, gave Garden City residents the chance to connect and socialize with the members of their community. This opportunity is incredibly impp0rtant, especially for visibility of small local businesses.
Further, residents were able to see what local businesses had to offer. Artists, Bakers, Crafters, and Musicians alike were able to share their talents with participants of the festival. When visiting the festival, residents could participate in activities such as shopping, eating, listening to a live local bald, and creating crafts. Several local art institutions, such as the Garden City Highschool Art Club and the local Arts Center gave small artists and ordinary residents alike the opportunity to create their own pieces. At the Art club booth, festival participants could live out their dreams being face painted by aspiring artists of youthful ages. For the Arts Center, they led an informative demonstration on print making, allowing attendees to create and take home their own unique prints.

Groups like these provide Garden City with a small town charm that many residents hold close to their heart. Fall Fest is a memorable celebration held annual that people look forward to each year.
