How to Celebrate Halloween in Garden City

It is that time of year when the leaves start changing color, the sky looks bluer and Halloween celebrations begin to approach. While most people build the month of October around celebrating Halloween, the circle of things to do for the season might be limited to some. Whether it’s going to an event or wanting to enjoy the spirit of the season at home, here are a couple of ideas on how to celebrate Halloween fun.

Now, of course, the obvious place to start when looking to get into the season, especially if you are going with families or friends, is to attend trunk-or-treats. There are several events like this hosted not just throughout Halloween day but also throughout October as a whole, including one at Garden City Community College. The Student Government Association will be hosting their very own trunk-or-treat with several clubs at the college, with free admission.

Other events happening in Garden City are the Haunted Halls: Spooky Scavenger Hunt on October 25th. The hunt will be hosted at the parks and recreation building over on 6th street, with an admission fee of $5 to enter. Additionally, the annual Boo at the Zoo will be held at Lee Richardson Zoo on October 18th. Admission to enter will be $10 at the entrance but it will be half off for guests who buy their tickets in advance.

However, for some people, the urge to celebrate Halloween is better suited for more comfortable situations, such as watching movies. Although, looking for good horror media is hard to come by. A couple of good suggestions for getting into the Halloween mood include spooky films currently showing at our local movie theatre, such as The Strangers Chapter Two, or the upcoming The Blackphone 2 on October 17th. If one wants to stay home, there are plenty of options on the various streaming services online right now. There are horror classics such as the Scream franchise and family-friendly options such as classic Goosebumps episodes, or classics such as Beetlejuice.

It does not matter what you choose to do during the month but the celebration of Halloween and the spooky season is alive and well in Garden City. The season has just started and the options will undoubtedly continue to keep coming. So put on your costumes and relax as you enjoy the ride.
