October is here and that means that fall festivities are in full swing! As you drive around town, you will start to find bright orange pumpkins filling porches. Pumpkins are the ultimate symbol that Halloween is right around the corner, yet one big question still remains: should you carve your pumpkin or should you paint it?
How you choose to decorate your pumpkin can say a lot about your style, your creativity and your artistic skills. Carving brings back the nostalgic feeling of your childhood with the classic candlelit glow of a jack-o-lantern, whereas painting opens the door to endless creativity without having to deal with the mess of pumpkin guts. Whether you love the traditional feel that carving pumpkins brings or prefer letting your painting skills shine through, the battle of carving vs painting has officially begun.
Carving pumpkins allow you to be as detail oriented as you want to be, ranging from simple triangle eyes and a straight cut mouth to a perfectly sculpted picture. This fun-filled activity can be therapeutic for some, while also sharpening your fine motor skills as you go. However, having to clean the pumpkin insides out can be a dealbreaker for some since it is extremely messy and time consuming. Carving can also be dangerous for younger children, which is why painting could be a better option.
Painting your pumpkin accesses a whole different world of creativity because there are zero limits. You can quite literally paint anything you want in a more efficient manner than carving. If you paint a pumpkin, it typically lasts a much longer time than carving does. This can be much easier to clean up and a lot safer for kids. On the downside, painting can be very prone to scratching where you would not have this issue with carving. You also cannot achieve the glowing pumpkin look with paint. With all this being said, what team are you on, team carve or team paint?
