Buster Highlight – PTK

Academically successful two-year college students across the world are invited to join Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) upon completing a minimum of 12 hours of associate degree course work and earning a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Today, PTK stands as the largest honor society in American higher education boasting over two million members and 1,200 chapters. Garden City Community College is fortunate to have two advisors and ten student chapter officers to lead the Alpha Xi Upsilon Phi Theta Kappa chapter throughout a year full of leadership development, fellowship, service, and scholarship opportunities. The Garden City Community College Chapter, Alpha Xi Upsilon has inducted nearly 2,200 students since being charted on November 1st, 1988.

Throughout involvement within chapter activities members have the opportunity to improve their organizational and communication skills, sharpen their problem-solving abilities, and become effective leaders. As they use these valuable skills to create positive change across the campus and community, they form connections and friendships with their cohort. Throughout the school year the Alpha Xi Upsilon chapter will attend regional conferences across Kansas and Nebraska and the annual PTK Catalyst in Dallas, Texas in April. At these conferences, members attend sessions to enhance their personal growth. In addition, the most current community service project members are dedicated to is the Alzheimer’s Walk. The chapter will be selling walking tacos and a drink for $5 in the quad on October 1st to raise money for the cause. Be sure to stop by! If you’re already a member you are invited to join chapter meetings every Friday from 11:30 to 12:30 in ACAD 1208. For more details contact Mrs. Lamb or Mrs. Greathouse.
