With the end of October also comes the end of the Halloween season. As people bring down their spooky decorations and start hanging up their trees and get into the Christmas spirit, it is time to look back and reflect on those who celebrated Halloween. This is by looking back at the dozens of costumes and inspirations behind the top costumes seen this year.
Of course, pop culture and social media have impacted and inspired people, young and old, who have been dressing up for Halloween for years now. This year, especially, was no different. A lot of the most seen costumes this year stemmed from the hit movies that were released this year. One such example is Superman. With a new movie having hit in the summer of this year, Superman, who is already a staple for many people on Halloween, saw a rise in people dressing up as the hero this Halloween. Most of these costumes were also paired as a couple’s costume with partners wearing business casual suits to be love interest, Lois Lane and some Halloween goers even brought their dogs to dress up as Krypto the Super Dog.
Of course, Superman was not the only top costume seen this year. For younger children, there was also an uptick in movies such as Wicked. With Wicked’s release last year, in November and its upcoming sequel releasing later this year, studios wasted no time in capturing the wave of excitement and anticipation from many fans. This Halloween, many people were covered in green face paint, and some in bubbly pink dresses as they dressed up as the movie’s two protagonists.
Similarly, the surprise hit, K-pop Demon Hunters, also blew up this summer after its release on Netflix. What makes these costumes unique is that, due to how close the movie’s release was, many costumes for the movie were not available until well deep in October. As children wanted to be characters like Rumi and Jinu, many parents scrambled to find them. With this, there was an uptick in quick DIY costumes for kids and sales from online retailers like Shein in order to have costumes arrive on time, and soon enough, streets were lined with children in purple hair and glittery jackets.
These are only a few of the thousands of hit costumes seen in Garden City this Halloween. However, times keep changing and what resonates with the public evolves and people’s creativity flourishes, the possibilities for next year’s costumes are always endless.
