Sunday, March, 8, 2026 was International Women’s Day. Garden City Community College celebrated women, last Friday, Mar. 6. Crowds gathered as businesses managed and owned by women set up on campus. These businesses were located at the Thomas F. Saffell Library.
Friday had the perfect weather for vendors to expand their tables outside in the quad. This offered students to spend time from 11-3 shopping and enjoying other services that were offered.
A highlight of the afternoon was the presence of the cosmetology students. This group offered hair tinsel that adds a sparkle to any length of hair. The addition of temporary tattoos were also a big hit. Not to mention, these enhancements were absolutely free of charge for the entire community. The cosmetology student were extremely busy to say the least, with a continuous line all throughout the afternoon.
Moonlight Permanent Jewelry also allowed the community to optimize their look with personalized jewelry. This added a touch of elegance right inside of the library.
To keep the energy levels up and mouths fed, The Protein Plug and Jenny’s Dulces Locos attended the event with various different types of food offerings. The Protein Plug mixes popular sold shakes and pancakes with the inclusion of protein for those interested in the extra boost of nutrients. Jenny’s Dulces Locos brought all the fruit and candy to the celebration for students and community members to purchase for only $5.00.
Other popular attendances were Crafted by Kay and Robin Valenzuela from Main Street Arts.

Overall, last Friday was a success, creating a space for the community to gather and recognize businesses owned by Women. From the diverse vendors, to the addition of cosmetology students, the event captured the spirit of the day.
